Mimitsu Historical District

This area was once a very vibrant area and called “Mimitsu-sengen (Mimitsu of a thousand buildings)”. It was the base for cultural exchange and commerce with Kyoto, Osaka and Kobe.

The unique point about this area, is that aspects of Kyoto and Osaka architecture is incorporated into the buildings. Some examples of the architecture includes, Kyoto style window lattice, “Mushiko-mado” window lattice and earthen floor “Touri-niwa” which connects the entrance and the backyard.

The decorations of old boats found on post boxes is also an interesting point. You can soak up the atmosphere by strolling through this area where merchants of the Edo period vigorously conducted business.
