This large cave is where all the gods and goddesses are said to have gathered to discuss what to do when the world was plunged into darkness by Amaterasu-Oomikami who controls the sun.

This happened because Amaterasu-Oomikami hid in a cave after being enraged by her brother Susano-ono-Mikoto bad deeds. People visiting this shrine started to stack rocks, creating small rock spires which has added to the unique spiritual atmosphere this place has.
