Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems

A location surrounded by forest, in a place with little flat ground, there is a history of the people living here developing their own traditional farming methods. From planting Pine trees for lumber and a traditional style of slash-and-burn farming, to growing grains and tea on terrace style paddocks.

An area where people and nature have found a balance which is sustainable, there is a traditional ritual dedicated to the gods to pray for a plentiful harvest called “Kagura” which is still performed and passed down through the generations to this day.
